Since 1845

Our History

Mt. Zion Baptist Church was constituted in 1845 at Flewellen’s Crossroads, DeSoto County, Mississippi. In 1873, Tate County would be carved out of DeSoto County and Flewellen’s Crossroads would become Independence, Mississippi. This September we will celebrate our 175th anniversary of ministry in the Independence Community. Mt. Zion was constituted as a mission minded church. We believe the Bible is without error from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21. this bedrock belief has been Mt. Zion’s driving force that has seen many pastors, missionaries, music ministers and student ministers taught and nurtured by the Mt. Zion family. Currently Mt. Zion has ministers and missionaries serving in the United States and around the world. We thank God that He has seen fit to bless us in giving so many opportunities to be His hands and feet through the years. We are excited about the future as we move through the third century of sharing the love of Christ “in Independence, Tate County, Mississippi, the United States and around the world. We praise Him for every opportunity!!

We Hope To See You Here!
